APCO 2020 Has Been Canceled

Decision made due to Florida health advisories

I write to you today on behalf of the APCO International Executive Committee, Board of Directors and APCO staff to announce that we have made the very difficult decision to cancel APCO 2020.
Since I wrote last week announcing that we were moving forward with conference, several developments occurred, which culminated in a recommendation to the Board of Directors that we cancel conference and their subsequent unanimous approval on Monday, June 22, to proceed forward with cancellation.  This past Thursday, June 18, the Mayor of Orange County, Florida, issued an Executive Order requiring the mandatory wearing of face masks effective on Saturday, June 20.  On Saturday, Florida reported 4,049 new COVID-19 cases setting a record high since the pandemic began. Lastly, on Saturday, the Florida Department of Health issued a new Advisory where it recommended that persons not attend events in the state where 50 or more people would be gathered. With these new developments occurring over the past weekend, we decided that the prudent thing to do, to the disappointment of many, is to cancel our event.

For those of you who have already registered to attend APCO 2020, we will soon be issuing you a full refund of your registration fees. We will also announce plans to meet our annual governance requirements for those affected. Please check the APCO 2020 website for additional information regarding the cancellation.

Answers to Your Questions

What is the status of APCO 2020?

APCO 2020 has been canceled due to Florida health advisories.

Will APCO 2020 be rescheduled for later this year?

No. We look forward to seeing you at APCO 2021 in San Antonio, Texas, August 15-18.

Will my fees (registration, special events, etc.) be refunded? When?

Refunds will be issued in the same method the payment was made.
If you paid by credit card, your credit card will be issued a refund.
If you paid by check, APCO will issue you a check for the refund.
Refunds will take approximately 7-14 days to process.

Will APCO cancel my hotel reservations?

If you booked through the APCO 2020 official housing site, your hotel room will be canceled automatically. You will receive an email from Orchid.Events with your cancellation confirmation.

If you DID NOT book through the APCO 2020 official housing site, you will need to cancel those reservations personally.

Will APCO help with fees associated with the cancellation of my travel reservations?

APCO is not able to assist with the travel arrangements you made on your own. Please contact your travel agent or airline directly to learn about the options available to you; many airlines have made special provisions to address COVID-19 related issues.

Will the other APCO events take place as scheduled?

No decisions have been made regarding other upcoming APCO events. Please consult the APCO Events webpage for the most up-to-date information.

I planned to meet my continuing education requirements through programming at APCO 2020. What other options are available from APCO?

We continue to have virtual options for ongoing training needs to help keep you well trained. View online training options.

I was presenting at APCO 2020, what happens to my session?

The 2020 professional development sessions will not carry over into the program for APCO 2021. Presenters can submit their session proposals for consideration for APCO 2021 during the call for speakers taking place this fall. I was receiving an award at APCO 2020, what happens now?

Award winners will receive a separate communication regarding their award. If you have any questions, please contact Whitney Chong at chongw@apcointl.org.

What about voting and other association business?

Information will be available in July.
